About the theme

The theme of the 2021 edition of the Cultural and Art Exhibition “60 Years of Good Will Children and Youth Protagonism” highlights an important fact in the history of the Legion of Good Will. In September 1961, the President of the Organization, José de Paiva Netto, who at the time was still very young, suggested the creation of the pioneer Children and Youth Department to the founder of the LGW, Alziro Zarur (1914-1979), in order to mobilize and carry out actions aimed at young people. The proposal was accepted, and Paiva Netto was made responsible for the department. On October 15, 1961, he wrote a letter entitled “A Young Person’s Recipe for Young People,” which was published in the Gazeta de Notícias newspaper, and in which he reaffirmed his commitment to the Good Will cause. Throughout his over 60 years of work, he has been inspiring young people in Brazil and abroad to follow the path of Goodness.
