With the objective of helping to build “a better Brazil and a happier humanity”, radio broadcaster and Brazilian poet Alziro Zarur (1914-1979) founded the Legion of Good Will (LBV) on January 1, 1950 (World Peace Day) in the country. When his successor, Brazilian journalist, writer, and educator José de Paiva Netto, took over as president he expanded the humanitarian mission of the Organization, which achieved an international dimension. Since then, the LBV consolidated its presence in Paraguay in 1984, in Argentina and Uruguay in 1985, in Bolivia and the United States in 1986, and in Portugal in 1989.

* All-encompassing Ecumenical Spirituality values — This banner of the Legion of Good Will is present in all its socio-educational actions, because it is understood as “the cradle of the most generous values that are born of the Soul; the dwelling of the emotions and of the reasoning enlightened by intuition; the atmosphere that embraces everything that transcends the ordinary field of matter and comes from the elevated human sensitivity, such as Truth, Mercy, Morals, Ethics, Honesty, Generosity, and Brotherly Love.” Extract taken from the best-seller by writer and LBV president Paiva Netto ‘É Urgent Reeducar!’ [It is Urgent to Re-educate], which has sold more than 6 million books.
