The highlight of the talk was the significant number of young members in the Organization’s team participating in the event. From the 13 representatives, 10 are below the age of 28 and from 6 different countries. Oltre alla presenza di personalità e rappresentanti dei Paesi membri, l’ECOSOC ha contato sulla partecipazione delle organizzazioni non governative (ONG) che hanno lo status consultivo presso il Consiglio Economico e Sociale. Per le Nazioni Unite la competenza specializzata e l'esperienza pratica di ogni ONG sono molto utili per le decisioni dell'organismo. Avendo lo status consultivo, un’ONG è in grado di eseguire un’analisi specializzata delle questioni direttamente sulla base della sua esperienza nell’area; aiutare a controllare e ad applicare accordi internazionali; aiutare nella coscientizzazione sulle questioni pertinenti; ecc. Inoltre queste ONG partecipano alle riunioni ufficiali, espongono dichiarazioni scritte e orali, e possono anche avere incontri con le delegazioni ufficiali dei governi e con altre ONG internazionali.
La Legione della Buona Volontà (LBV) — organizzazione della società civile brasiliana che ha lo status consultivo generale presso l'ECOSOC fin dal 1999 — partecipa ogni anno a quest’ importante evento. L'Istituzione espone in quattro lingue (spagnolo, francese, inglese e portoghese) il messaggio ecumenico e fraterno del suo presidente, José de Paiva Netto, e le sue raccomandazioni per l'evento a patire dalla sua esperienza di oltre 60 anni, in Brasile e in altri sei paesi in cui opera con basi autonome: Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Portogallo, Stati Uniti e Uruguay.
Quest'anno, le raccomandazioni sono anche il risultato delle discussioni promosse attraverso il 10° Forum Rete Società Solidale, una serie di eventi nazionali realizzati dal 20 al 29 Novembre 2013 in Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay e nello Stato Plurinazionale della Bolivia. Gli incontri hanno avuto l’appoggio delle Nazioni Unite (DESA/ONU) e la presenza di rappresentanti di varie agenzie locali del Sistema ONU (UNIC, UNESCO, UNICEFe Patto Globale).
